Pastor Greg shares a message inspired by the ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i word Nohona which refers to a residence, existence or, specifically, a worthwhile existence. It is this last definition that Greg focuses in on.
MESSAGE NOTES
This week’s Olelo Hawai’i word is Nohona.
Like many Hawaiian words it can have several different meanings depending on the context. It can simply refer to your residence, your home, your dwelling. But it can also refer to your mode of life, your existence itself. Specifically to a worthwhile existence. It is this definition I want to focus on this week.
Nihilism is the philosophical belief that includes the rejection of all religious and moral principles and is primarily, the belief that all of life is meaningless. Many young people are flocking to this idea, that there is no such thing as a worthwhile existence. In fact, some go so far in their belief, that they say there may not be such a thing as existence at all. Sometimes nihilism goes so far as to maintain that that nothing in the universe has any real existence. They say, everything is an illusion. They say everything we call the universe, time, space, emotions, pain, pleasure, experiences, relationships, everything, is just taking place in your mind and nothing is actually real.
It is God who directs the lives of His creatures; everyone’s life is in His power. ~ Job 12:10
And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? ~ Mark 8:34-37
Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. ~ Matthew 7:13-14
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. ~ John 6:63
For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. ~ John 12:49
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. ~ John 14:10
Jesus essentially said the purpose of His life as a human on earth was this: “I’m just here to do what the Father tells me to do and to say what the Father tells me to say.”
All we need to do is Just do what Jesus tells us to do and say what Jesus tells us to say and everything will turn out the way it is supposed to.
“The best day of your life is only a millisecond away from being theorist day of your life.” ~ Pastor Lisle Kauffman
“Never put off for tomorrow what you can do today.” – Thomas Jefferson
A person’s days are determined; You have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed. ~ Job 14:5
All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be. ~ Psalm 139:16
“I want to make a difference, with other people who want to make a difference, doing something, together, that actually makes a difference.” ~ Pastor Greg Scott
[GOD] chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will— to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One he loves. ~ Ephesians 1:4-6
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. ~ John 10:10

“It is only in God that we discover our origin, our identity, our meaning, our purpose, our significance, our destiny, and, of course, our nohona, our worthwhile existence.” ~ Pastor Greg Scott
